Courses to play while waiting to get onto the Old Course
While waiting in St Andrews to get onto the Old Course through the daily ballot, there are many other terrific area courses that you can play while staying in St Andrews. Here are my top 20 in order of being most memorable, with an edge toward the links courses. Many of these courses have been used as �final qualifying� courses for the Open Championships at the Old Course and Carnoustie. The longest drives from St Andrews are to Carnoustie, Montrose, Rosemount and Gleneagles, but all are within an hour�s drive and well worth the excursion. Kingsbarns, as one of the newest courses and the most expensive at 145 pounds ($280), is a close second to Carnoustie:
